Lawcovernotes December 2017

Risk Briefings There are traps and pitfalls to be aware of in every area of law. However the traps in a will drafting matter are different to the traps in a conveyancing matter. Through claims analysis, Lawcover provides Risk Briefings in the most claims prone areas of law, including Conveyancing, Wills and Estates and Litigation. Each two hour Risk Briefing is specific to that area of law, and examines common traps and pitfalls causing claims, with practical tips and guidance that can be integrated into everyday practice. Webinars Condensed versions of the Risk Briefings are available in one-hour webinar format for practitioners who are unable to attend face to face sessions. The webinars are convenient and provide a risk snapshot specific to areas of law. Short Minutes It’s not always easy to take time away from practice to attend seminars or workshops and Lawcover is always looking for different ways to deliver the risk management message – succinctly. Short Minutes are quick, accessible risk management videos in a click. We condense real caselaw and real claims into short videos providing tips for solicitors to manage similar risks arising in their practice. The feedback on these videos has been excellent and we welcome your comments after watching. Risk on Air In 2018 Lawcover will be introducing Podcasts which are portable, on the go risk recordings. They can be accessed anywhere, anytime and are ideal to listen to on the daily commute, while travelling or in the office as CPD. The Podcasts will examine important issues, key caselaw and claims, how they relate to risk and how this affects legal practice. In a conversational format, experts in the legal industry share their experience and knowledge, providing guidance and insight into the measures you can take to avoid the same thing happening in your practice. Law Practice Advisory Service It’s not always easy to identify areas in practice where risk is present or changes can be made. If a practice has experienced a claim, Lawcover offers a confidential advisory service to help provide support. We undertake a practice risk review onsite and our practice risk consultants help identify risk factors or claims prone areas and prepare recommendations for the principals to consider implementing; at no cost and at no obligation. It’s a service that has been independently measured by actuaries to reduce risk and reduce claims for participating practices. As the legal landscape changes, Lawcover continues to work with solicitors to create meaningful, accessible and relatable content with clear and practical outcomes. Feedback or comments regarding the RMEP is welcome. The 2018 Risk Management Education Program calendar is available at Lawcover .com.au/events Practice Support Services 19.
